Immediate past Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba, has sent goodwill messages to His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Oba Ewuare Ogidigan II, the Oba of Benin, on the occsasion of the celebration of the New Yam Festival.
Agba, a royal prince and son to the late Oliola of Uzanu-Uneme of Etsako East Local Government of Edo State and holder of the chieftaincy titles of the
Ofevwosi of Uneme land and Oduma of Auchi Sacred Kingdom, hailed the Edo monarch and custodian of Edo tradition and culture, for reviving the age-long festival, which had almost gone into extinction, and further lauded his sterling leadership qualities, especially for his quest towards preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom.
Agba, who also bears the national honour of the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON), recalled how the resilience of His Royal Majesty culminated in the repatriation of the stolen Benin artefacts and prayed the Almighty God and the Benin Ancestors to grant him more wisdom, good health and longlife to accomplish a prosperous reign on the throne of his forefathers. The New Yam Festival ceremony, also known as Emorho, is an integral part of the cultural heritage that the Benin people and affiliates, both at home and in the Diaspora, are deeply proud of.
