The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 Command, says it has intercepted illegal goods, worth N6.6 billion, in the state within the last 17 months.

The Outgoing Area Comptroller, Bamidele Makinde, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Ota, by the Command’s Public Relation Officer, Mr Hameed Oloyede.

Oloyede said the illegal goods intercepted within the period included 73,989 bags of foreign rice, equivalent to 122 trucks, 907 bales and 236 sacks of second-hand clothings.

Other seizures, he said, were 655,400 litres of petrol, 1,245 rounds of ammunition, 2,678 wraps of cannabis sativa and 655,400 litres of Premium Motor Spirit equivalent to 20 tanker loads.

He said that the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the intercepted illegal goods were N6, 604,107,655.92.

He added that under the watch of the outgoing Comptroller, the command also generated N225,009,835.50 as revenue and made 1,479 seizures.

“The command generated the sum of N225,009,835 as revenue, surpassing its revenue target of N136,532,168.22 set for the command for 2023.

“In addition, we generated the sum of N127,122,058.00, which is about 91 per cent of the target with three months and some days to the end of the year,” he said (NAN). READ ALSO:
