The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has frowned at the constant vandalization of electricity armoured cables in Lafia and other local government areas (LGAs) of the state.
Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House, made the lamentation while reading the House resolution on a matter of public importance, brought by Mr Solomon Akwashiki (SDP – Lafia Central), during the House proceedings in Lafia on Monday.
The speaker said that it was unfortunate and uncalled for that some miscreants and criminals are vandalizing cables in the state.
He also said that the activities of the criminals are affecting power supply and the socio-economic activities in the state negatively.
“First, I want to appreciate Hon Solomon Akwashiki for bringing this matter of public importance, and I want to appreciate members for their contributions, this is indeed the matter that touches the lives of our people.
“Some miscreants and criminals are going round vandalizing electricity cables. We frown at the constant removal of armoured cables in Lafia and other LGAs.
“We urge the state Government to, as a matter of urgency, take proactive measures to curtail the situation.
“We also urge the security agencies to redouble their efforts in securing this cables and other electricity facilities across the state,” he said.
The speaker also appreciated other colleagues for their positive contributions on the matter.
Earlier, Mr Akwashiki, member representing Lafia Central constituency, drew the attention of the House to the constant vandalization of armoured cables in his constituency.
“The duty of the government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
“There are cases of vandalization of electricity cables in my constituency such as Tudun Gwandara and Doma road among other places.
“Because of constant vandalization of armoured cables, youths and other people took to the street to protest. We thank God that security agencies calmed the situation,” he said.
Akwashiki called for urgent steps and measures in order to curtail constant vandalization of armoured cables and other electricity facilities in his constituency and the state at large in order to boost the socio-economic activities of the people. (NAN). READ ALSO:
