The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has refuted speculations that he is no more a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike who is the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, was recently appointed by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu as Minister of FCT.
Despite not defecting from the PDP, Wike’s appointment had earlier triggered speculations that he had joined the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Speaking during an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, monitored by PROMPT NEWS, Wike said “What has PDP got to do with the governance? I never hide my intention as PDP member”
“We clamored for Presidency to go to South, I am PDP but I supported Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
“Tinubu means well for the country. Assuming for independence candidacy of anybody, would have supported such person. I am not here to support any party but to support Tinubu.”
When asked if the opposition party would call for his suspension, the Minister said, “How can someone says he wants to suspends me. Can someone who didn’t produce a Governor, National Assembly Members suspend me.”
“I said PDP Governors nominated people for appointment, has anybody come to challenge me? Let them come out to say it is a lie.”
“I wrote a letter to the party’s Zonal Chairman, State chairman and Governor, they said I should accept the appointment.
“I worked in favour of Justice and equity. My party won Governorship, National Assembly, so we told them to do the right thing, they refused. I want to support Asiwaju to finish well”
“I believe the God I serve is not a sleeping God.”
