The Police in Jigawa have arrested four suspected brigands in Garki Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Shi’isu Lawan confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday in Dutse.
He said that operatives of the Command arrested the suspects (names withheld) on Aug. 19, at a suspected criminal hideout in Dandagare village of Garki LGA.
“On 19/08/2023 at about 0800hrs, a joint operation comprising personnel from Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and members of vigilantd, led by Area Commander, Ringim, conducted a raid at criminal hideout in Dandagare Fulani Settlement in Garki LGA.
“During the raid, four suspects, aged between 25 and 55, all residents of Dandagare Fulani Settlement were arrested,” Shi’isu said.
He said the suspects were believed to be members of a kidnap syndicate, who used their houses to hid kidnap victims and harboured undesirable elements.
The suspects, he said, had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation.
Meanwhile, Lawan said the Command also arrested a 24-year-old man for alleged theft of motorcycle at Gada village in Kazaure LGA.
He said operatives of the Command arrested the suspect on Aug. 21, after he allegedly stole a motorbike belonging to one, Muslim Saidu.
Lawan said the police had recovered the stolen motorcyle at the suspect grandmother’s house in Tsohon-Kafi quarters of Kazaure
“The suspect has earlier been arrested on Aug. 13 over alleged housebreaking and theft of a power generator.
“He was charged to court on Aug. 14, and admitted on bail on Aug. 18”. (NAN)
