            Habu Gumel

By: Gracious Akujobi President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Habu Gumel, has assured that both the country’s male and female national teams would qualify for the 2014 World Championships.

The qualifier, which is the competition’s first phase, started on July 23 and will end on July 26 with only Nigeria, Niger and Togo participating after Benin Republic failed to make it.

Gumel told journalists Tuesday in Abuja he was confident of Team Nigeria’s success due to their intensive training and preparation for the competition.

“I want to assure you that Nigeria will qualify because they have been undergoing intensive training”

“And I believe that, with the way the team is playing, by the time they will play their first match on Wednesday, people will see things for themselves”

“We will do our utmost best to ensure that the team qualify because we want to be at the championship come 2014” the NVBF President said.

Nigeria is hosting the Male and Female Sub-Zonal World Championship Qualifier comprising of three teams, instead of four.

Team Nigeria, both male and female teams will play their first game Wednesday evening against Niger at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Abuja National Stadium.
