Nigeria’s Under 19 male cricket team will depart the country on Thursday for a tour of Kigali, Rwanda ahead of the 2024 World Cup Under 19 Africa Division one qualifiers.
The qualifiers, with six teams participating is scheduled for Tanzania from July 23 to July 31, but the Nigerian side will have a training tour of Kigali before traveling for the tournament
Daniel Gim, head coach of the team, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja that the team will depart with 14 players for the event.
”We will be traveling tomorrow (Thursday) from Lagos. We are on transit now from Benin, where we have been in camp for weeks, heading to Lagos.
“The choice of Rwanda for the training tour is because it is not far from Tanzania and we expect that weather conditions are likely to be similar
“This will help the players to acclimatise well ahead of the event and we will be playing against some selected teams while in Rwanda to prepare the team as well,” he said.
NAN reports that Nigeria is seeking the sole ticket to the World Cup in Sri Lanka 2024 but will face five other contenders; Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Namibia, Uganda and Kenya, in the process. (NAN)
