The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) has said that the National Pay Policy is still a work in progress.
This is in reaction to a report in the SUN newspapers, saying that the Federal Government has designed a National Pay Policy.
According to the Head of Press Unit at NSIWC, Emmanuel Njoku, “the writer situated an interview granted to him by the Chairman of National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, Esq. actually emanated from a Two-Day Training Workshop for Salary Inspectors held on the 4th of April, 2023 for the execution of Phase 2 of the 2022 Salary Inspection of selected Ministries, Department and Agencies.
However, Njoku explained that it was during the training workshop that the Chairman itemised some of the plans and activities of the Commission, like monitoring of the implementation of the National Minimum Wage, the review of the National Minimum Wage coming up next year 2024, and drafting of a National Pay Policy.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the drafting of the National Pay Policy as approved at a meeting of the Presidential Committee on Salaries which was held on 25th May, 2023 is still ongoing.
“To further put the record straight, the Training Workshop was held on the 4th of April 2023 and not in June 2023 as portrayed by the writer,” the head of media clarified.
