Less than 48 hours to the planned nationwide strike, a National Industrial Court in Abuja, has stopped the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) from embarking on any strike over the fuel subsidy removal.
Justice Olufunke Anuwe on Monday restrained the NLC and all its affiliates from further embarking on the strike planned for June 7 until the hearing and determination of the main suit.
The Court further ordered the service of the originating summons and motion on notice on the NLC against the next adjourned date of June 19.
The orders of the Court followed an ex parte application by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice seeking to stop the planned strike.
President Bola Tinubu had during his inuagural speech on May 29 in Abuja announced that “subsidy is gone”, a statement which instantly triggered the jerking up of petrol pump price by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and all the oil marketers in Nigeria.
For this reason, NLC which met with the federal government last week in Abuja without reaching any agreement has given notice of a nationwide protest over the increase in petrol price except federal government reverses the order.
