Less than 24 hours after visiting victims of Bodija market inferno, Oyo South Senator-elect, Sharafadeen Alli, has redeemed his pledge to support plank sellers in Bodija market who incurred losses.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that Alli had on Friday in Ibadan, delivered 50 bundles of roofing sheets as a commitment to an earlier pledge.
Alli, the Maye Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, on Thursday visited the market to commiserate with the victims where he promised to support them.
NAN recalls that no fewer than 120 shops were razed by fire at the plank section of the popular Bodija market, on Tuesday evening.
Mr Ayodele Adedokun, the media aide to the Senator-Elect, said that the 50 bundles of roofing sheets was just part of their commitment to the pledge, promising they would do more.
“The Senator-Elect was here yesterday to commiserate with victims of fire incident at Bodija plank market and to look at level of damage caused by the inferno.
“He promised palliatives during his visit and today, he sent us to deliver 50 bundles of roofing sheets. We’ve handed it to the market association for those who suffered losses.
“He has also promised to do more. This is a first step to showing his commitment towards the pledge,” he said.
Mr Waliyu Aderoju, the Chairman, Oyo State Plank Seller Association in the market, appreciated the Senator-Elect for his kind gesture.
“We received this palliative over the unfortunate fire incident that befell us. We pray we will not pay you back over unfortunate incident like this.
“By the time we receive another gift from you, it would be for joyous reason and not for bad reason like this.
“God will give you peace of mind to succeed in your political sojourn and God will grant you all your heart’s desires, including an ambition to become the state governor,” he prayed. (NAN)
