Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State Wednesday jettisoned the provision of the constitution when he appointed Speaker of the State House of Assembly as the Acting Governor as he travels to Saudi Arabia for Lesser Hajj.
But rather than handing over to Deputy Governor, Ahmed Ibeto as he proceeds on ten days leave, Governor Aliyu, in a letter to the Assembly directed the Speaker, Adamu Usman to act in his absence.
The letter reads, “I wish to inform Mr. Speaker, that I intend to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the Lesser Hajj between 19th and 26th February, 2015.
“In my absence, the Honourable Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Adamu Usman will oversee my schedules as the acting governor.”
The Deputy Governor recently defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), a situation that has brought him at logger heads with the Governor.
Prompt News recalls that last week, Governor Aliyu walked out the Deputy Governor from a meeting.
