The National Population Commission (NPC) inaugurated the local sub-committees for Security/Logistics and Publicity in Anambra.
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo, who performed the brief ceremony, said the state would participate fully in the exercise and was doing all to ensure the people were well mobilised.
Soludo, who was represented by Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, said the errors of 2006 when the Southeast refused to be counted would be avoided.
He said the government used the opportunity of the campaigns ahead of the recent elections to wend the message to the nooks and crannies of the state.
He said the communities, Churches, Civil Societies and other Community-based stakeholders were encouraged to join in the planning and enlightenment efforts of the Federal and Anambra governments in the State.
Soludo said Census was crucial as election as it was a tool for effective governance which was the essence of the existence of government.
Soludo directed all the state media channels to develop a message on the census which would be played before and after every news hour.
On his part, Mr Chidi Ezeoke, Federal Commissioner representing Anambra in the NPC, said the sub-committees were imperative to the success of the national population and housing census in the State.
Ezeoke assured that the Commission would deploy digital technology in the conduct of the census and no stone would be left unturned in its resolve to generate a quality and internationally acceptable data for informed planning.
According to him, “I wish to use this opportunity to reassure Anambra people, and the entire country, that the NPC is irrevocably committed to ensuring that everything about the 2023 census is done rightly and professionally.
“We have the clear vision, commitment and capacity to deliver on this historic mandate,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Paul Nwosu, the state Commissioner for Information, is head of the media sub-committee while AVM Ben Chiobi is in charge of Security and Logistics sub-committee. (NAN)
