As the troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) intensified effort to contain the activities of the insurgents in north-east Nigeria, the people of Borno have also taken their destines into their hands.
Borno state has been the epicenter of the activities of the Islamist sect. The insurgents have claimed responsibility for series of deadly attacks leading to loss of thousands of lives across the northern part of Nigeria.
They also claimed responsibility for attacks on the United Nations building and Police Force headquarters in Abuja, as well as Christmas Day bombing at a Catholic Church at Madallah, near Abuja.
At the weekend, three suspected members of the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram were killed as they attempted to attack Muslims attending Tafsir (Ramadam preaching).
The insurgents allegedly came from Bama area in a Golf Salooon car and a tricycle armed with AK47 and a pistol.
They were said to have invaded the El-Amin Daggash Mosque in Maiduguri and attempted to kill the preacher, Modu Mustapha.
But, they met their waterloo when angry mob came to the rescue of the preacher, lynched the sect members and killed three of them.
Following escalation of attacks on innocent people, President Goodluck Jonathan in May declared a state of emergency in three north-eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
