The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has urged party supporters to refrain totally from any act that may ignite violence ahead of the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections slated for Saturday, March 18, 2023.
Yakubu who made the call at a meeting with Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) Tuesday in Abuja, said the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections is huge and the Commission would not want any activity that will undermine the process.
The INEC boss therefore appealed to politicians especially political party chieftains
and their candidates to guide against making utterances which will ignite political unrest in the country.
Also speaking at the meeting, Co-chair of ICCES and National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd), warned trouble makers that the security agencies are at high alert to deal ruthlessly with anyone who wants to disrupt the March 18 elections across the country.
