The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Nweze Umahi on Tuesday paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, explaining that his trip to the seat of government was productive.
This is even as Umahi has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is getting stronger in the South East despite the Labour Party (LP) winning big across the five South East geopolitical zone, bragging that APC is the only party in Ebonyi.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after the closed door meeting with President Buhari at the State House Abuja, the Governor disclosed that his mission to the Aso Rock Villa was to thank Buhari for naming the newly completed medical school in Ebonyi state after him (Umahi).
Umahi also said that he was in Abuja to invite Mr President for the commissioning of infrastructure projects in the state; including the newly built Ebonyi airport, which he said he also wants the Federal Government to take over.
Speaking further the Governor revealed that his visit to AsoRock Villa was also to seek the understanding of the President for the conversion of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic in Unwana to a Federal University of Science and Technology.
Meanwhile, Governor Umahi, has argued that APC is getting stronger in the South East despite the string of successes recorded by the Labour Party in the recent Presidential and National Assembly (NASS) elections in the region.
Umahi, who emerged Senator-elect in the elections, noted that his Ebonyi state APC recorded significant successes because of the strength of the party.
He also noted that while the Labour Party has no gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in Ebonyi state, even if there was one, the APC will still win the election because of the quality of candidate fielded.
On the chances of the South East geopolitical zone in the composition of the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, in view of his assertion, Governor Umahi said that every geopolitical zone would be given a fair chance when the time comes for that.
He stressed that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, had directed incoming National Assembly members to step down the issue of parliamentary leadership tussle until after the governorship and State Assembly polls next Saturday.
