Ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Australia and New Zealand, Super Falcons invitee, Ginika Ike has taken her football career to Morocco as she has joined the ranks of top division side, Sporting Club of Casablanca.
Ike who was invited to Super Falcons training camp in Abuja prior to 2018 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Ghana but was said to be surplus to requirement by national team selectors, have recently seen her career blossoming after she left Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions Bayelsa Queens, for Ghana.
But, less than one year she joined Berry Ladies FC of Accra, Sporting Club FC of Casablanca have secured her signature and she has since settled down in Casablanca, Morocco’s commercial capital.
The 25 year-old attacking midfielder is expected to help Sporting Club, currently second in the Moroccan Women’s Football League (MWFL), to finish ahead of league leaders, ASFAR Ladies, the reigning CAF Women’s Club champions to qualify for the 2023 edition of CAF Women’s Club Champions League.
However, should Sporting Club finish second on the log, Ike and her club will still represent Morocco in the 2023 CAF Women’s Club Champions League North African Football Union (UNAF) play-off later in the year.
Speaking to Prompt News from her Casablanca base, the talented footballer expressed her joy to play in the North African country, saying that life in Morocco is awesome just as she said she is adapting to the cold weather in Casablanca.
“I am looking forward to helping Sporting Club to win titles and do well in the continent if the opportunity comes. I am also hopeful that if I continue to do well here Super Falcons coaches will look my way to invite to represent my country. That is my dream”, she said.
Before playing for Bayelsa Queens, the attacking midfielder had played for FC Robo of Lagos; Confluence Queens Kogi and Nasarawa Amazon as well as Sunshine Queens of Akure.
