With the results of all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Lagos state dully declared and awaiting official
announcement by the INEC Returning Officer for the state, Professor Adenike Oladiji Monday morning, the Labour Party flagbearer Peter Gregory Obi, has defeated his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos, his home state.
A closer look at the number of votes garnered by the candidates in the last Saturday’s Presidential election showed that though Tinubu won more LGAs, Obi defeated him with the majority of the votes cast as the former Anambra state governor polled a toll of 582,664 votes while Tinubu scored 572,606.
All the results of the 20 LGAs have been declared with Tinubu winning in 11 while Obi won in nine LGAs.
The Local Governments won by Tinubu include Agege, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Surulere and Mushin.
Obi on the other hand won Eti-Osa, Amuwo Odofin, Ikeja, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Alimosho, Ojo and Somolu.
Until the eventual outcome of the poll, Lagos had been touted as a major stronghold of the APC standard bearer.
