A trader, Ibrahim Musa, 19, on Wednesday appeared before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, charged with intimidating and snatching mobile phone from a passerby.
The police charged, Musa of Angwan Beri-beri, Life Camp, Abuja, with criminal conspiracy, intimidation and theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that on Feb.16 at 2:50 p.m., the complainant, Fatima Yahaya of Karmo FCT, Abuja, reported the matter at Life Camp Police Station.
Nwafoaku alleged that on the said date, the defendant and his accomplice, now at large, attacked and threatened to kill the complainant with a knife, near Lento Aluminium , Life Camp Abuja.
He alleged that the defendant forcefully collected the complainant’s hand bag containing a mobile phone worth N35, 000 and other documents.
The prosecutor said that as the gang fled the scene of the crime, Yahaya began to scream and Musa was caught.
Nwafoaku said that the police, however, did not recover the stolen items when the defendant was arrested.
The prosecutor said that the offence committed contravened Sections 347 and 288 of the Penal Code Law.
The defence counsel, Cajetan Nnaemeka applied for bail his client in the most liberal terms.
Nnaemeka made the application citing sections 36 of the 1999 Constitution and Section 158 of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 with a promise that the defendant would not jump bail if granted.
The prosecution counsel did not object to the bail application made by the defence counsel.
The Judge, Mr Muhammed Wakili, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 and one surety in like sum.
Wakili ordered that the surety must provide his BVN print out, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
The Judge adjourned the matter until April 18, for hearing. (NAN)
