Nigerians have been cautioned again by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on a purported portal for the recruitment of ad hoc staff for the 2023 general election.
PromptNews reports that the warning was given in a short message by Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to Oyekanmi, the portal is fake and the Commission is no longer recruiting ad hoc staff for the election as its official website for recruitment has been shut down since last year.
“The website/blog below is advertising ad hoc staff positions for the 2023 general election.
“However, the Commission is no longer recruiting ad hoc staff for the 2023 General Election.
“The INEC ad hoc staff recruitment portal was officially shut down on Dec. 14 2022.
“Therefore, the site, with the URL – http://www.yournewclaims.com/Inec-Recriutment/ is fake.
“It is intended to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. Nigerians should disregard it”, he stated.
An earlier alarm had been raised by INEC on October 5, 2022, on a similar fake ad hoc recruitment link inecnigeria.govservice.site being circulated online.
On September 7, 2022, the Commission revealed that its official recruitment portal for the forthcoming election (www.pres.inecnigeria.org) would be open for use on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, by 8 a.m. and would be closed on Wednesday, December 14, by 8 p.m. respectively.
