By Gracious Akujobi Flying Eagles Chief Coach Manu Garba has declared that his team was capable of lifting the World Cup when the competition kicks-off in New Zealand later in the year.
Manu told Prompt News after his boys got their second win in the ongoing Super 6 when they beat League defending champions Kano Pillars, said despite the win, his team was not yet ready for the Africa Youth Championship (AYC).
He however, hoped to select his final squad for the championship after the team’s training camp in Gambia.
“I don’t have a team for AYC yet because we don’t have the full compliments of the players we would want to use.
“We want to get a final word on the availability of some players from their clubs before we submit our final list of 21 for AYC. We have players who can take over if the foreign based players are not available,” he stated.
Asked if he is under any pressure to win both the AYC and the World Cup, Manu pointed out that he has never been under pressure in his career and that he believes in destiny.
The U-17 World Cup winning coach said that he would go to the World Cup as African champions, stressing that he would give the World Cup a good shot to see how far the Flying Eagles can go, adding that winning the World Cup is his inner most target.
