The FCT Football Association has made a passionate appeal to the organziers of the North Central zone of Copa/Cocacola U-15 football competition beginning in Ilorin, Kwara State on Thursday 9th June, 2016 to as a matter of urgency shift the date of the tournament to enable Students of its representative school, FOSLA Academy Abuja conclude its Junior Secondary School Examination holding in all schools in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement, the First Vice Chairman of the FCT FA Patrick Ngwaogu said the tournament which is open to students within the ages of 13-15 years and must be in the Junior Secondary Schools is coinciding with the JSS Examinations in FCT. According to Mr. Ngwaogu who is the Chairman of the FCT FA Organizing Committee, “we have just recieved a letter from the management of FOSLA Academy, the champions of the FCT edition of the Copa/cocacola football tournament that the North Central zone of the tournament will begin on 9th June, 2016 in Ilorin, Kwara State. They said that their team is in high spirit and very determined to make FCT proud in the tournament. They complained that most of their players that were registered for the tournament are writing their JSS Examinations popularly called the “Junior WAEC” which would make it very impossible for them to be part of the tournament. They appealed to the organizers of the tournament to consider shifting the date of the tournament to enable all the students writing the examinations be part of the tournament. We at the FCT FA totally agree with them, since the tournament is meant for students in the junior secondary schools, and invariably, most of them will be in JSS 3 and would be writing their final junior examinations this period”.
Mr. Ngwaogu said “we are very optimistic that the organizers of the tournament and especially cocacola who have the interest of these junior students at heart, and would always want to encourage them to combine their academics with football, will surely listen to our plead by moving the date of the tournament for some days to enable the students writing their examinations conclude and join in the playing. This will no doubt encourage other students to strive to be part of subsequent editions of the tournament, but to enable the junior students exhibits their skills in the round leather game” he concluded.
FOSLA Academy U-15 emerged FCT Champions and representative by defeating JSS Zuba in the finals.
