By Gracious Akujobi The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has changed the pre-tournament plan of the national under-19 team in preparation for the Africa Under-19 Cricket Championship scheduled for Tanzania between February 13 -20.
Prompt News reports that the team was earlier scheduled to embark on a pre-tournament tour of Dubai, from January 26 but will now be going to Kenya in preparation for the championship.
Head of Media Unit of NCF Musa Ehizoje, said in Abuja that the change was at the instance of their sponsor John Abebe.
“The sponsor decided that the Dubai tour be arranged for the senior national team in preparation for the World Cup Division five league scheduled to take place later in the year to enable them gain promotion to the world Cricket Division Four”
“So, he said he is opting out from the Dubai tour which he had earlier proposed to give the U-19 team. As step-in-the-gap measure, the NCF is now proposing to take the team to Kenya”
“The date for the pre-tournament camp did not change, it’s just the venue that changed and the NCF will now sponsor it with Abebe supporting,” Ehizoje said.
Twenty-two players are now in camp in preparation for the African championship from where 14 players will be chosen for the final list.
The training is taking place at the Cricket oval at the Package B of the National Stadium Abuja.
