BENIN-CITY – The leadership of Labour Party Edo state chapter has condemned the use of ‘juju'(voodooism) and the pandemonium that has characterized the recent political developments within the ruling All Progressive congress (APC) in the state.
The party chided the key contenders in APC for throwing caution to the winds and reducing governance in the state to ”spirituality, voodooism, fetishness and personal vendetta.”
In a statement made available to journalists in Benin city, the party wrote:” the allegation and counter allegation of witchcraft and voodooism between the comrade Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the deputy Dr. Pius Odubu is a clear and unambiguous indication that governance in Edo state has been handed over to juju.”
The party in the statement signed by the National secretary
Barr Julius Abure, state chairman Sam Omakaro and state secretary Fred Akhere expressed displeasure that ”it is quite unfortunate that this is happening at a time when modern progressive and innovative government are thinking of how 2o improve the living conditions of their people, ours is busy accusing each other of juju and witchcraft.”
The party also regretted the embarrassment brought upon Edo people, by the recent assassination attempt on the deputy governor and his campaign team at Auchi. In the same light, labour party also took a swipe at the recent rowdiness that engulfed the state house of assembly over the impeachment of the speaker and the deputy speaker, stating that the importation of thugs into the hallowed chambers was a show of shame.
Therefore the party sued for peace from the warring factions of the APC in the state and pledged its resolve to continue to champion political sanity and true democratic values built on equity and justice: The party thus reminded Edo people to be resilient and beware o deceitful politicians.
