The Kwara State House of Assembly is to give necessary legal backing to the State’s Education reform agenda to justify the huge investment in the education sector in the State.
The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad gave assurance in Ilorin, while receiving the State Team of Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESPIN) in his office.
Dr. Ahmad said the need became imperative in view of the strategic role of education in ensuring the socio-economic and political emancipation of any society, noting that the proposed law would enumerate the roles of all stakeholders with a view to ensuring that they perform optimally to raise the standard of education in the State.
He praised (ESPIN) for its tremendous support to the education sector in the state,noting that the last 6 years of ESPIN in the State had risen the hope of the down troddens of having access to quality education.
The Speaker represented by the Chairman House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development Hon Adebayo Mohammed noted with delight that ESPIN had made significant impact in the educational sector in the State, through its funding, innovative approach, monitoring mechanism and social mobilisation and called for the sustainance of its programmes in the State.
Dr Ahmad equally assured that the 8th Legislature under his watch would continue to strengthen its oversight function to ensure that all investment in the sector was justified for the benefit of all and sundry in the State.
Earlier,the Team Leader of ESPIN in the State,Mr James fadukun had expressed delight that the government had demonstrated passion for the development of education in the state but enumerared further steps needed to be taken by the State government to fast track the development of education in the State.
He said ESPIN moved into the State in 2008 to support the State Government in achieving its reform agenda in the educational sector and would be rounding up in January next year.
The ESPIN Team Leader equally counselled the State Government on how to explore the potentials of international donor agencies in ensuring accelerated development of the State and praised the State House of Assembly for its commitment in ensuring proper oversight of the education sector.
