President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has said that he would not resign following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
He told newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, that he would get on with the job and run through his four-year term rather than chickening out of the task of moving Nigerian football forward.
Since Nigeria was ousted from the 2017 Afcon on Tuesday in Alexandria, Egypt, there have been calls on him to resign.
Pinnick however said it was “very unfair” for anybody to call on him to resign, noting “ I have heard calls by some persons asking me to resign but that is very unfair knowing the achievements this board has recorded during my tenure.
“We won the Africa Women’s Championship in Namibia, the FIFA U17 World Cup and we also qualified for almost all major competitions during this period.
“I was elected by the congress with a four-year tenure and it will be very unfair for anyone to ask for my resignation.”
On the employment of Sunday Oliseh, who dumped the team recently, Pinnick had this to say, “We have no regrets employing him because he came highly recommended like any other Nigerian and we gave him a four-years plan hoping that he will return our football to glory days”.
