Pandemonium broke out on Friday as a loud explosion rocked the newly renovated Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Calabar, Cross River State.
According to eye witness, no fewer than three people are said to be feared dead, leaving dozens also severely injured.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 12.30 pm, prompting security personnel to immediately condone off Calabar road where the office is located.
Emergency personnel responded swiftly. As at the time of filling this report, no official statement yet from the management of the CBN.
The explosion was said to have affected A Block which houses the main banking hall, the treasury and the Library.
Speaking with reporters after inspecting the scene, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Six AIG Bola Adisa Bolanta, could not confirm the actual number of casualties but said several people suffered injuries.
Also, the AIG could not confirm if it was a bomb explosion but said there was a possibility that an air condition may have exploded.
