Kwara Sports Commission says it is optimistic the state will surpass its previous records at the end of the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival (NSF) on Saturday in Asaba.
Executive Chairman of the commission, Bola Mogaji, stated this on Monday in Asaba in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of Delta 2022.
Mogaji, who told NAN that though the athletes from the state had started winning medals, however, noted that when the games reached the climax, Kwara would begin to haul gold medals.
“We have started winning medals in table tennis, both the able and para. We just got another medal in golf and some are in semi finals too, which means we are still expecting more medals.
“In dart, we have gotten a bronze medal and they’re still on. In squash, this is the power house of Kwara and we are just starting the first round.
“By the time we get to the middle of the tournament, we would be able to tell you how many gold medals we have won, and I am sure that our gold medals will be coming from that place and badminton as well,” he said.
Mogaji, who led the state’s contingent to the first national sports festival under his headship, said that the new administrative structure had been yielding results.
“The festival is ongoing, at the end, you will see the results.
“I am sure we are going to do better than we did during the last sports festival, because our present crop of players and athletes are tested in local and international tournaments.
“By the grace of God, they will do better,” the sports commission chairman said. (NAN)
