Aston Villa have a “concrete” interest in signing Villarreal attacker Samuel Chukwueze in January, sources have told Football Insider.
The site revealed earlier this month (10 November) that the Midlands giants want to sign a top-class forward capable of operating across the front line in the upcoming window.
Villa have set their sights on Chukwueze, who Unai Emery knows well from his time at Villarreal, and are keeping close tabs on his situation.
It is said their interest is “concrete” as Villa do their background checks on the player.
The Spanish boss is also keen to lure Pau Torres from Villarreal as he looks to bring in a new centre-back.
Chukwueze fits the bill for Villa as he is blisteringly quick, direct and capable of creating and scoring goals.
He is also versatile, playing primarily as a right winger this season though he can play on the left and as an out-and-out striker.
The 23-year-old has struggled for starts in La Liga this season, only playing from the start in five of Villarreal’s 14 league games.
He is also yet to score in the league but has bagged twice in the Europa Conference League.
Chukwueze has been at Villarreal since the summer of 2017 and has gone on to make 178 senior appearances for the club.
The winger is also a fully-fledged Nigeria international, making 25 appearances for his country and scoring four goals.
