A Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that two friends Adikwu Alexander and Ngbede Ogili be remanded in a correction centre for alleged attempted homicide.
The police charged Alexander and Ogili with conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and attempted culpable homicide.
Magistrate Sonia Yaikyur did not take the plea of Alexander and Ogili for want in jurisdiction.
Yaikyur directed the police to continue investigations into the matter.
She adjourned the case until Feb 3 for further mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Police Prosecutor, Insp. James Ewache told the court that the case was reported by Ms Mary Obiabo of Ogbeche Adoka LGA Benue, on Oct 31.
Ewache told the court that the suspect’s accomplices, Adikwu Alexander, Ngbede Ogili, John Ajawu, Egbe Idoko and Gabriel Okwoli trespassed into the complainants compound looking for her son Eche.
On sighting him, the police said, they pursued and inflicted various degrees of injuries on his neck and hands with a matchete.
The prosecution said investigation into the case was still ongoing and prayed the court for an adjournment.
He said the offence contravenes sections 97,248 and 230 of the Penal Code laws of Benue 2004. (NAN)
