Prof. Abdullahi Musa on Monday assumed office as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Kaduna State University (KASU), for a single-term period of five years with effect from Monday.
Musa took over from Prof. Abdullahi Ashafa who occupied the position on acting capacity since June 23, 2022.
He thanked Gov. Nasir El-Rufai and the governing council for considering him worthy to serve as the chief executive officer of the university.
He pointed out that as a university community; KASU had the responsibility of contributing to the development of the society.
The VC commended the outgone acting VC, Prof. Ashafa, whom he said has moved the university to a new level, adding that he would continue from where he stopped.
He assured of an Inclusive Leadership that would move the University to greatness in line with the vision of KASU.
“The vision of KASU is to become a university of world class standard with excellence in applied sciences and sustainability studies.
“We will reflect on this vision in whatever we do. This means our actions and decisions should contribute to the attainment of this vision.
“We have all that it takes to move KASU to a position of global repute and influence if we work as a team.
Earlier, the Chairman of the University Governing Council, Mr Hussain Dikko, said that Musa would be the Executive Head, Chief Academic Officer of the university and Chairman of the Senate, charged with the responsibility of achieving the mission and the vision of the university.
He advised Musa to ensure inclusion in his leadership and work with every one that would contribute to the development of the university not based on family and friends, religious, ethnic or political sentiments.
He commended Prof. Ashafa for his quality leadership that put the university on the path of progress and relative peace.
On his part, Ashafa thanked God, the governing council, and the state government for the opportunity to serve.
He urged the university community to rally behind the new VC and give him all the support he needs to succeed.
Also, the Registrar of the University, Mr Samuel Manshop, who spoke on behalf of the university community, called on all staff to support the new VC to succeed.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that until his appointment, Musa was the university librarian.
He holds a Ph.D. in Library Science from Emporia University, Kansas, United State of America, and a Master of Business Administration from Bayero University, Kano.
He got his first degree in Library Science from Bayero University, Kano and a Master’s in Library Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he also headed the Department of Library and Information Science. (NAN)
