The Police Command in Lagos State says it has arrested seven suspected traffic robbers, whom it alleged have been terrorising motorists on Ketu-Ikorodu Expressway in Kosofe area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Friday in his verified Twitter handle monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Hundeyin said that five of the suspects were arrested on Thursday at 11.00 a.m., while they were alleged to be attacking a motorist at Kosofe Bus Stop, near Mile 12 Food Market.
“On Thursday, five traffic robbers swooped on a motorist at Kosofe Bus Stop, along Ikorodu Road.
“The Ketu Police Division’s patrol team arrested them all, and that action led to the arrest of two others,” he said.
The spokesman said that the suspects’ ages were between 18 and 28.
He said that investigation was ongoing at the divisional level on the arrested suspects.
NAN reports that the command arrested 35 suspected armed robbers between June and August, 2022.
The spokesman who also confirmed the figure added that 13 other suspected armed robbers were killed in different parts of the state during encounters with the police within the same period.
He said 37 robbery operations were foiled in different parts of the state within the same time. (NAN)
