Still in a mourning mood over the death of his younger sister, Mrs. Nancy Jonathan-Olei, President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday postponed the inauguration of his campaign team.
The postponement is however by just 24 hours. Political Adviser to the President, Prof Rufai Alkali, said the inauguration will now hold on Tuesday.
Prompt News reports that members of the campaign team, PDP national leadership, chieftains and guests were surprised by the sudden postponement as they were already seated for the inauguration awaiting the arrival of the President.
Presidential Media Adviser, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Sunday announced the death of the President’s younger sister, who died at the age of 52.
“As you are all aware, His Excellency lost his sister, Mrs Nancy Jonathan-Olei, yesterday (Sunday).
“In view of this, he has decided to suspend this inauguration for today until tomorrow at 11 a.m.
“Mr President has asked me to convey his apologies for the inconveniences this postponement has caused, and to tell you it was due to circumstances beyond our control,” Alkali told the guests.
The Director-General of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation is a former national chairman of the party, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, while the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih is Campaign Adviser.
To assist the DG are three Deputy Directors-General- Prof Tunde Adeniran (National Office), ex-governor Peter Obi (South) and Special Duties Minister, Kabiru Tanimu (North).
The inauguration will still hold at the presidential campaign office of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.
