For Ghana’s women’s football league champions, Hasaacas Ladies, it was a case of saving the best for last as they beat high-flying Rivers Angels 3-1 in the epic final of the
first West African Football Union (WAFU-B) pre- 2021CAF Women’s Champions League tournament.
Hasaacas three goals in the match played at the artificial turf of Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoir, were scored by Veronica Appiah in the fisrt (1′) minute of the game, Perpetual Agyetum made it two goals before halftime (42′) and Bugre Azumah put the sword in the hearts of Rivers Angels in the 68 minute.
Nigeria Women’s Professional League ( NWPL) Champions however scored their only gaol courtesy of Vivian Ikechukwu in the 9th minute when she tied the highly explosive match before Hasaacas Ladies scored the second goal on the day to end the fisrt half 2-1.
Hope that Rivers Angels who had earlier in the Group B match hammered the same Hasaacas Ladies 2-0, could not reproduce the feat on Thursday night.
Hasaacas Ladies Head Coach Yussif Basigi who may have studied the Nigerian team came up with a superior tactics to counter his opposite number, Edwin Okon who star players could not come to the party on the final match.
Despite the loss, Rivers Angels and Hasaacas Ladies will represent WAFU-B Zone at the Inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League billed for Egypt later in the year.
Elsewhere, Amis du Monde of Togo beat USFA of Burkina 2-0 in the Third-place match played before the final match at the same venue.
Koudjoukalo Sama scored the first goal of the game for Amis du Monde in the 28th minute.
After the interval, Rachida Aboudou doubled Amis du Monde’s lead in the 56th minute.
The classification match was played by both clubs that failed to qualify for the inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.
