By Gracious Akujobi Nigeria Football Federation Technical Director, Shuaibu Amodu has categorically stated that Coach Stephen Keshi should have resigned after failing to qualify Nigeria for the 2015 Africa Nations Cup.
Super Eagles failed to qualify to defend Afcon 2015 holding in Equatorial Guinea, after playing a 2-2 draw in their last qualifying match against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
Amodu told Prompt News that there was no justification for Keshi to still remain on the job as Super Eagles coach, adding that a coach is only as good as his last match.
“As a coach you are as good as your last match. Stephen Keshi alone will decide if he has a reputation or he does not have a reputation.
“If he has a reputation he will work out of the job, if he does not have he should stay like a beggar.
“To keep Keshi is bad precedence because when Samson Siasia failed we came on air to tell the whole country that he has failed that he should go.
“Jonathan could not save him, so if we want to live on those standards what is good for the goose is good for gander.
“The situation as it is today if I were him, I would have said thank you Nigerians, I am sorry I failed I can try another time but for now let some else take over. But you must know that this is my personal opinion”.
As regards his appointment as Technical Director Amodu cleared the air by saying, “The announcement has been done and I think the second thing will be the process of actualizing the documentation which I am told it is ongoing .
“If that is perfected within the next one or two months one can clearly say Yes, I am assuming an office” he stated.
