Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have commended Gov. Seyi Makinde, over improved welfare and services at the facility.
This is contained in a statement by Dr Sope Orugun, President and Dr Stanley Nnara, the General Secretary, on Tuesday in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the doctors had over the years complained about the poor welfare of members, outstanding salary arrears and services at the hospital.
The doctors, in the statement, said that the governor had shown more visible political will and increased financial support to its members and services at the hospital.
They said that the support had translated into improvement in services and prompt payment of salaries that commensurate with the federal institutions.
“We appreciate His Excellency, Gov. Seyi Makinde, for all his unprecedented contributions to the growth of our members and the hospital.
“These include increased and more visible political will, increased financial support, which has translated into improvement in services, prompt payment of salaries that commensurate with federal institutions, among others,” the doctors said.
They urged the governor to quickly intervene on other issues bordering on salary arrears, departmental accreditation and relentless political will.
The doctors also called for domestication and implementation of the Medical Residency Training Act as well as, funding within the state.
According to them, residents in other teaching hospitals in the country enjoyed such gesture, urging the governor to use his good office to actualise desires of the doctors. (NAN)
