Title holders Super Falcons of Nigeria zoomed into the quarter-finals at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations after thrashing Burundi 4-0 in Rabat on Sunday night.
After an early period of dominance, the Super Falcons took the lead through the enterprising Rasheedat Ajibade from the spot in the 25th minute.
The Atletico Madrid winger was hacked down inside the box by Burundi goalkeeper Janine Irakoze, who got a yellow card for the offence.
Ajibade neatly slotted the ball home to the delight of scanty Nigerian fans inside the Stade Prince Moulay Hassan, Rabat.
It was the former FC Robo star second goal of the competition.
The Super Falcons went two goals up three minutes later with Peace Efih, who was making her debut appearance in the competition slabbing home from close range.
Mexico-based forward Uchenna Kanu netted the third in the 28th minute following a brilliant cross from Ajibade.
The Super Falcons the second half on a strong footing and went four goals up just a minute after restart.
Randy Waldrum’s failed to add to their lead despite creating a number of goal scoring opportunities.
