Debuntantes, Senegal have cruised to the top of Group A table after thrashing Uganda 2-0 in both teams’ opening match of the 12th CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Two goals in each half of the match scored by Teranga Lionesses’ captain Ndiaye Diakite via penalty in the 39th minute and a beautiful strike by Nguemar Ndiaye in the 50th minute gifted Senegal three points and two goals cushion.
Senegal with superior goal difference leads Group A as the hosts, Morocco managed a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso in the opening match of the tournament on Saturday in Rabat. Burkina Faso and Uganda are without any point after all the teams have played one game each.
The Senegalese would have scored more goals if they had been more clinical in the vital area, although the Ugandans tried to put up a strong challenge against the West Africans.
