Global sportswear manufacturer, Nike has teamed up with Football Club Barcelona women’s star, Asisat Oshoala to launch her self-named football academy in Nigeria.
The outfit called Asisat Oshoala Academy (AOA) is part of the player’s efforts to promote women’s football and education of the girl-child especially those in her community in Lagos.
The reigning African Best Footballer of the Year (Women) has now taken to her Twitter page to announce the launch of her football academy in collaboration with global sports brand Nike, for which she is an ambassador and multi-dimensional women’s fund, Women Win.
Oshoala is currently with the Nigeria women’s football team, Super Falcons for the 12th CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nation (WAFCON) Morocco 2022.
She will be leading Nigeria’s attack on Monday when the Super Falcons will play their opening match of Group C against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in Rabat on Monday, July 4.
The top player had humble beginnings as she started her football career at Mushin-based club, FC Robo but rose to international
recognition after her exploits at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final where she won the Best Player award.
She later moved abroad a year later, after she joined English Premier side, Liverpool from where she has also moved before settling down in Barcelona, Spain.
