The Niger Police Command on Monday released N64 million to 30 families of policemen who died in an active service between 2020 and 2021.
DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s Public Relations Officer said this in a statement issued in Minna on Monday.
“The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, presents cheques amounting to N64 million to 30 different families of police personnel who died in active service in the command between 2020 and 2021.
“This welfare gesture is an initiative of the IGP Group Life Assurance geared towards improving the lives and capacity of the families left behind by these heroic officers who lost their lives in the line of duty,’” he said.
While presenting the cheques to the next of kins in the presence of family members, the commissioner appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for such laudable initiative to provide succour to families of the deceased personnel.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to effectively manage and judiciously use the resources for a better welfare of the families.
The families expressed satisfaction, happiness and appreciation amid emotional situation to the IGP, the government and the commissioner of police for their efforts in ensuring a better care for the bereaved families.
“We will ensure that the resources will be well managed towards an improved standard of our living,’’ the statement quoted the beneficiaries as saying.(NAN)
