The governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Ekiti, Mrs Kemi Elebute, has said that women and youth-centred programmes will form her administration’s cardinal objectives, if elected as governor of the state in 2023.
Elebute, who stated this during her campaign tour of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday, said that the ‘huge support’ she had received from Ekiti women would serve as catalyst for women involvement in politics.
She dismissed the rumoured crisis in ADP, stressing that her emergence as governor would bring about industrial and business development in the state.
“With their support for me, the whole world and the people of Ekiti know that women are in full of my candidature.
“They sponsored themselves here in one uniform and in one accord that come June 18, they are ready to vote me so that they can have their own in government.
“Irrespective of whatever might have happened within the party, we are waxing stronger everyday and we are prepared for the election.
“According to statistics, 60 to 70 per cent of women all over the world are involved in politics. And as you can see, the women and youths are here to support me,” she said.
The governorship aspirant noted that this time around, women had decided to come together to support her to ensure that one of their own is in government.
“My drive is the passion that I have to serve and that is why I have put myself forward for election.
“Women and youth emancipation as well as women liberation in politics are what we want to achieve. Enough is enough; this is our time and, I’m also pleading with our men too to support us.
“We want to pay our pensioners. The only thing Ekiti people rely on is salary; we also want to create jobs.
“I am going to be the first governor to have industrial and business district in Ekiti. I want to empower our youths and carry our women along in politics,” Elebute said. (NAN)
