Rep. James Owolabi (APC-Lagos) has lost the APC ticket for the Ifako-Ijaiye Federal constituency.
Owolabi lost to Mr Benjamin Olabinjo, a former Special Adviser, Civic Engagement to Ex-governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
Announcing the result of the primary election held at the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Secretariat on Friday, Mr Ganiu Sodiq, Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee/Returning Officer for the primaries, said that Olabinjo scored 35 votes to defeat the three other contenders.
According to him, other contenders, Mr Dayo Saka-Fafunmi scored 14 votes, Mr Adekunle Olayinka polled four votes while Owolabi scored two votes.
He said that 55 ad hoc delegates drawn from 11 wards in the federal constituency participated in the primaries.
He added that the total number of accredited votes was 55 while the total votes cast was also 55 .
‘’ This is to certify that Benjamin Adeyemi Olabinjo, haven scored the highest number of votes in this primaries for the House of Representatives, Ifako Ijaiye Federal Constituency, is hereby declared winner,” Sodiq said.
In his acceptance speech, Olabinjo, also a former council chairman, expressed gratitude to the delegates and party leaders for finding him worthy of the mandate.
Olabinjo assured the people of adequate representation in the federal parliament, adding that he would endeavour to surpass his record as former council chairman and special adviser to the governor.
“I am a grassroot man and because of the love people have for me and what I have been doing, they voted me in first, second and this is third time, I am assuring them that I will do wonderfully well,” he said.
He enjoined other aspirants to accept the result in good faith, adding that he had lost elections prior to his victory.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the primaries was conducted under heavy presence of security personnel and watch of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). (NAN)
