By Gracious Akujobi Defending champions of Federation Cup, Enyimba FC International defeated Dolphins FC 2-1 at the Teslim Balogun stadium to win the Federation cup 2014.
Winners of same cup last year, the Kadiri Ikahana tutored side had a Stanley Eguma Dolphins who have never lost a cup final to contend with.
Dolphins started like a house on fire and took the game straight away to Enyimba but it was the Aba side that opened scoring through Mfon Udoh who scored in the 52′ to give them the lead. Enyimba again scored in the 73′ when Dolphins Defender failed to clear which allowed Okonkwo to steal the ball and tuck in for the second goal.
Dolphins got a life line when Emem Eduok got their opener in the 80′ but that too little to late as Enyimba defended their two goals and coasted home in victory.
A delighted Kadiri Ikhana said after the match “This victory is sweet, very sweet indeed. We missed winning the league by whiskers but coming here to win the Federation cup for our fans really gladden my heart”
“It is very important for me to win this cup.I have had three sleepless nights because of this game and in the last week I have been echoing to my boys to just win the cup for me maybe I can resign as a coach afterwards. Winning this cup was paramount and I am happy they did it for me” he stated.
Dolphins coach Stanley Eguma said “I am disappointed not winning the cup but that is football for you, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. We would have loved to maintain our record but unfortunately that didn’t happen . I thank my boys for getting to the finals of the Federation cup and to Enyimba, I say a big congratulations”
Enyimba are the second team after Heartland FC to win the Federation cup back to back.
