The Peoples Democratic Party members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Thursday impeached the Speaker, Adewale Omirin, alongside his deputy.
Consequently, Dele Olugbemi from Ikole Local Government Area has been elected the new Speaker.
Also elected as Deputy Speaker is Abeni Olayinka from Ado Local Government Area.
The sitting of the seven PDP members in the Assembly Chamber was behind closed doors as journalists were turned back by the Chief Security Officer of the Assembly.
As at the time of filling this report, it could not be ascertained the exact number of lawmakers that participated in the impeachment process.
However, plain clothe security operatives were sighted at the Assembly complex and a couple of governor’s aides.
On Tuesday, seven PDP governors had reconvened and cleared the Governor’s Commissioners and Special Advisers nominees, as well as members of the Local Government Caretaker Committees.
