Minister of Sports Tammy Danagogo has called on all State Governments and corporate organisations to key into the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan, to fish out budding sports talents amongst our youths for the purpose of taking sports to a greater height in the country.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the 7th National School Sports Festival which ran between the 6th to the 16th of November, 2014 in Otukpo, Benue State, the Minister said “I commend all States that took part in the Sports festival. I also urge all States to key into the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to fish out young sporting talents.”
Dr. Danagogo described the hosting of the sporting event outside a State Capital as unique, saying “the hosting of the festival outside a State Capital is unique as it was designed to capture budding sports talents in the grassroots.”
The Minister who commended Senator David Mark for his support in the hosting of the festival explained that the decision to take the event to the grassroots to hunt for budding talents was one of the cardinal decision reached at the Presidential Retreat on Sports organised by President Goodluck Jonathan to develop sports in the country.
He pledged that the Federal Government would continue to monitor the successful participants and introduce programmes to improve them, adding that all participants were winners and champions for participating and representing their States.
The Minister who expressed happiness that the festival had turned out to be of great success, said he looked forward to seeing the successful participants as future champions, not only in sports, but in other professional endeavours.
Cross River State contingent emerged first, while Anambra State and Lagos State came second and third respectively.
