Mrs Theresa Uju, the first female National President of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA), has commended the rate of growth of the Nigerian travel trade.
Uju gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.
She noted that the technological advancement had remarkably impacted on the travel trade business, considering the then cumbersome and challenging booking processes.
She further explained that bookings could now be made in the comfort of the home of a travel agent, adding that it is highly encouraging.
“There has been huge improvement in the travel trade industry; we now have a lot of innovations that has made ticket booking so seamless.
“There is great improvements. We now have airline offices everywhere across the country unlike years ago when we used to have them in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano only,’’ she said.
Uju urged travel agents across the country to focus more on marketing domestic tourism and projecting tourist attractions across the country to their clients to generate more patronage and revenues.
She said if an individual travel agent does not have the financial capability to offer package tours, such travel agent could collaborate with others for effective delivery.
The former NANTA President said it is regrettable that domestic tourism has been neglected.
“This is the time to look at it; let us sell our country to the world regardless of the insecurity problems.
“Collaboration is the way to go for every travel agent who is financially constrained to package tours.
“However, after the execution of the tours, the income generated should be shared among the agents involved,’’ she stressed. (NAN)
