The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye has urged the Super Eagles to complete the job of picking the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations’ qualification ticket by hammering visiting Bafana Bafana of South Africa with goals as they face each other in the match that would determine the participation of Nigeria in the competition.
The NSC boss who predicted the victory of the Eagles against host team Congo Brazzaville before the match was decided in Pointe Noire on Saturday has again expressed total confidence in the ability of the team to beat South Africa and snatch the second 2015 AFCON qualification ticket in the group.
He, however, warned on complacency and urged the Eagles to take the South Africa team seriously and get the job done if possible in the first half of the game to avoid unnecessary anxiety in the course of the game.
“The Eagles have proved to the whole world once again the strong spirit and resilience of a typical Nigerian team in their match away to Congo Brazzaville. In the face of hostilities they were still able to spank their host 2-0 which showed great character of the team.
“Now that they have passed the first difficult huddle I strongly believe that this second huddle is also surmountable. I want them to be very alert throughout the duration of the game. They should play as if their lives depend on the match and possibly wrap up the game with goals in the first half of the game and make the second half less difficult.
“I am sure that the team will pick the second qualification ticket after South Africa. The leadership of the National Sports Commission is strongly behind the team and their coaching crew. We are fully in support of the Nigeria Football Federation as regards this important match. I know that we shall have cause to thank God after the match”, Elegbeleye summed up.
