The town of Chibok in Borno State has been recaptured from the Boko Haram sect, Nigerian military said on Sunday.
On Thursday, the town, where over 200 school girls were abducted by the Boko Haram over six months ago was overran by the insurgents.
During the military raid on the town on Saturday, several insurgents were reportedly killed.
Prompt News gathered that the local vigilante group also assisted the military in recapturing the town.
Confirming this, the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig Gen. Olajide Laleye said Chibok was recaptured Saturday.
“Troops recaptured Chibok 1830hrs last night and mopping up operations ongoing. The town is now secured,” Laleye said on Sunday.
