The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State says it has so far received 34,294 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from the national headquarters.
Mr Atiku Shekari, Public Affairs Officer, INEC, Kebbi State, made this known in a statement on Friday in Birnin Kebbi.
He said the cards were for those who registered in the first and second quarters of the continuous voters’ registration exercise, which started on June 29 and ended Dec. 20, 2021.
Shekari said: “Those that registered during the aforementioned periods are to visit INEC LGA offices in which they registered to collect their PVCs from April 25, between 9.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. every working day.
“The general public should note that there is no collection of PVCs by proxy.
“The commission also wishes to assure all those that registered between January and March as well as those in the process now (fourth quarter) that their cards would be made available to them before the 2023 general elections.
“The commission is calling on all citizens who are 18 years and above, but yet to register, as well as those that may wish to transfer, update their information, or seek for replacement of the lost/damaged (PVCs) to take advantage of the fourth (last) quarter.”
According to him, the last quarter of the exercise will end by June 30, advising the affected persons to do the needful in order to exercise their civic responsibility and consolidate democracy.
He, however, said the existing voters whose PVCs and their information were correct should note that, it was an offence to do multiple registration.
He added that multiple registration constituted a serious offence and was punishable by law. (NAN)
