President Goodluck Jonathan Thursday held series of meetings with stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including some aggrieved members of the Senate.
The ruling party has been engulfed in internal crisis over automatic tickets for lawmakers and anointment of successors by some governors.
Disturbed that the crisis may tear the party apart if not carefully handled, President Jonathan held closed doors talks with the aggrieved members of the Senate at the Presidential Villa,
The meeting was strictly private thus, media men were not allowed to either cover it or establish those in attendance as it is the practise.
Prompt News recalls that the Senators have vowed to frustrate the re-election of President Jonathan unless they are also guaranteed automatic tickets.
In fact, they have practically shut down the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly as the plenary could not hold on Wednesday and Thursday.
The ruling PDP has granted the President and first term Governors automatic tickets, fuelling agitation by the Senators that what is good for the goose should equally be good good the gander.
President Jonathan also engaged stakeholders from Enugu State in a fence mending talks. In attendance at the meeting was the party’s national chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu.
Also present were Governor Sullivan Chime, Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu and a former President of the Senate, Ken Nnamani.
However, all those in attendance declined comment after the meeting.
