The Vice-Chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, OAUSTECH, Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, has stated that Nigerian Government and other stakeholders in the education sector must work hand in hand to ensure that Nigerian education system in the 21st century is skilled-driven.
Prof. Ologunorisa stated this recently while interacting with some youths from Ondo State who paid him a courtesy call.
The award-winning climate and environmental scientist stressed that the era of theories without significant practical knowledge and training has gone.
He said: “Our education must be focused, skill-driven and sustainable if the government really mean well for the citizens and younger generation of Nigerians.”
The astute university administrator, who stated that his coming to OAUSTECH was divine premised on the fact that he did not know anyone or lobby for the appointment, asserted that he was very convinced that the University would prosper despite all odds.
“There is no problem that is insurmountable. I left my comfort zone. I took the VC job to help people, touch lives and make change,” he remarked.
Prof. Ologunorisa disclosed that the University under his watch would introduce more academic and postgraduate programmes to grow the students’ population.
“We will run certificate and diploma courses in Data Processing, in addition to degree courses in Basic Medical Sciences, Management Science, Marine Science and Technologies, Environmental Studies and professional postgraduate programmes.
And we will make our students bilingual by teaching and issuing them certificates of proficiency in French Language to start with,” Prof. Ologunorisa submitted.
